Patrick J. Shanahan, M.D
Patrick Shanahan, M.D. was born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York. He served in the US Navy, then attended George Mason University and received a BS in Biology. He earned his medical degree in 1986 from the University Of Virginia School Of Medicine. Dr. Shanahan completed his residency and chief residency in Family Medicine at the University of Maryland. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Physicians and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Medical Chirurgical Society of Maryland. Dr. Shanahan founded Drs Shanahan and has over twenty years of full spectrum Family Practice and hospital medical staff leadership experience. He is a past Medical Director of the Chester River Home Health & Hospice, and a prior Medical Director of the Kent County EMS.
Dr. Shanahan is active in the community and has volunteered his time to support the Maryland National Guard as the Maryland Defense Force, 10th Medical Regiment Medical Team Director. He has been deployed to several Military Humanitarian Missions including New Orleans, after Katrina. Dr. Shanahan instructs Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, and Advanced Disaster Life Support. After completing a rigorous training program in 2009, he received his Army Flight Surgeon Wings from the US Army Aero Medical School and has volunteered Flight Surgery duty with the 29th Combat Aviation Brigade of the Maryland Army National Guard. In addition to other awards and honors, he received his third Maryland National Guard Meritorious Service Medal. In 2011, Dr. Shanahan was designated as an Aviation Medical Examiner by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Dr. Shanahan lives in Chestertown with his wife, Theresa. He has three children and five grandchildren, and enjoys spending time with them, hunting, fishing, and golfing.
